Preschool Daily Schedule: A Day in the Life at BCNS

While no two days at BCNS are quite the same, a gentle rhythm grounds our time together.

Here’s a glimpse into how a typical morning might unfold.

9:00 AM

Arrival & Connection

Children check in with teachers, greet friends, and start their day with outdoor play.

9:15 AM

Entry into the Classroom

As children enter their classrooms, they are invited to explore thoughtfully prepared classroom provocations designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and meaningful discovery.

9:30 AM

Morning Meeting

Children come together as a class to greet one another, engage in movement games, songs, and stories, and explore the day’s provocations through group discussion.

10:00 AM

Indoor Play & Snack Time

Children freely explore thoughtfully prepared small-group provocations, pause for snack, and then choose to continue classroom play, join a Willow Group exploration, or visit the Literacy Corner.

11:45 AM - 12:00 PM

Clean Up & Dismissal

Following clean-up (and for the older children, closing circle) classes will head outside for play before dismissal for those who do not stay for Extended Care.

A young boy and girl are drawing with chalk on a paved surface outdoors. The boy is lying on his stomach, watching as the girl, kneeling, draws a shape with blue chalk. The girl wears a colorful jacket and pink gloves.
A bulletin board decorated with paper hearts made of red, pink, and white paint with abstract patterns. In the center, there is a sign with the message 'FEAR YOUR.' Below, small children's drawings are clipped to the board with clothespins, featuring colorful scribbles, animals, and figures.

…and for those who stay for an afternoon of Extended Care*

*In Fall 2026 Extended Care options will be available until 5PM.

12:00 PM

Transition to Lunch

Children depart their morning classroom and go to the bathroom. They transition to our Extended Day space to eat lunch as a group.

12:45 PM

Quiet Time

As children finish their lunches, they are provided a choice of quiet activities or opportunity to rest. Quiet activities might include drawing, puzzles, and Legos. Rest time includes read-aloud stories and soothing music. This allows children a time to reset.

1:15 PM

Indoor Open Play

Children may choose to continue to work on quiet time activities, explore more areas of the classroom, or engage in projects related to the afternoon curriculum.

1:45 PM

Circle

Children gather for a read-aloud and discussion related to areas of exploration in our Extended Day Program.

2:00 PM - 2:30 PM

Outdoor Play & Dismissal

Following clean-up and circle, our Lunch Bunch program will head outside for play on our attached playground before dismissal. Those staying for Extended Day will head back inside for a bit more play!

More Than a Routine

Our daily rhythms offer more than structure - they build safety, trust, and room for each child to thrive. The consistency of the day provides comfort, while flexibility allows us to follow the children’s curiosity and the moment at hand.
